A man was stopped by Transportation Security Administration officers early Tuesday when they saw a loaded gun in his carry-on bag at Pittsburgh International Airport, authorities said.

Officers observed a loaded 9mm handgun while the man was going through the main security checkpoint just before 6:40 a.m.

Allegheny County Police were alerted.

No charges are expected to be filed after county police determined that the man has a valid concealed carry permit. He told them the firearm was inadvertently left in his bag.

The FBI was notified and the man was allowed to get on his flight.

County police held onto the gun.

Passengers who bring firearms into an airport checkpoint can face federal civil fines of up to $10,000 from the TSA. Repeat offenders can be fined up to $13,910.

There have been at least 16 incidents of people bringing guns to the Pittsburgh International Airport this year.

In June, a loaded .45-caliber handgun was found in a passenger’s carry-on bag at the main security checkpoint making it the 14th firearm found at the site this year.

In July, an Ohio woman tried to take a loaded handgun through security and was stopped by TSA officers after they spotted a handgun in her purse as it went through the X-ray machine.

On Friday, a Cambria County woman was stopped by TSA at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport after officers discovered a loaded .38-caliber gun in her purse.
