Three people were shot in two separate incidents Wednesday night in Pittsburgh’s Hill District, city police said.

• In a shooting in the 2800 block of Centre Avenue at about 9:45 p.m., a child received a grazing wound on the head and a male victim was shot in the thumb, according to Pittsburgh police and Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV.

The victims were shot after a dispute inside an apartment and both were taken to a local hospital in stable condition, police said.

Pittsburgh police and a SWAT unit responded the scene upon receiving a report that seven gunshots had been fired, WPXI said.

A K-9 officer and SWAT members searched the apartment building and found a weapon but no suspect, according to police. However, police said one person has been detained as part of their investigation.

Residents were allowed to return to the building at about 11:15 p.m., and officers cleared the scene shortly before midnight.

• In a second incident, police were notified of a Shotspotter alert around 8:20 p.m. in the 2000 block of Centre Avenue.

Around the same time, police said, a man with a gunshot wound to the chest walked into the Zone 2 police station seeking assistance.

Police rendered aid to the victim before he was transported by medics to a local hospital.

The investigation is ongoing and additional details were not available early Thursday.
