A man from Pittsburgh’s Homewood North section will serve 15 to 30 years in state prison for the shooting deaths of a couple during a fight over a custody dispute two years ago.

Darryl Barnett, 28, pleaded guilty to two counts of voluntary manslaughter and two firearms counts Thursday before Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Randal B. Todd.

He admitted to killing Kierra Eddisha Harris, 26, and Lavon Sizemore, 29, on Nov. 13, 2019, during a dispute at Kelly and Collier streets in Homewood.

Prosecutors said Harris got into an argument that night with a woman who had custody of one of her children. That woman contacted her friend, who was dating Barnett, and the two of them arrived at the scene.

At one point, witnesses said that Harris was fighting with the friend, and Sizemore tried to get her to leave. But then he also got involved in the altercation. The witness told investigators she was struck by both Harris and Sizemore.

Barnett shot Harris in the neck and chest, and Sizemore in the neck.

Sizemore died at the scene, while Harris died a short time later at UPMC Presbyterian.

Barnett fled and was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in Philadelphia on Jan. 27, 2020.
