Police: Man fatally shot by girlfriend during hours-long domestic altercation in Turtle Creek
A 24-year-old man was fatally shot by his girlfriend after he reportedly assaulted her for hours early Saturday in Turtle Creek, according to Allegheny County Police.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the slain man as Nigel Broadus but did not list his home address.
The county’s homicide unit is investigating the shooting, which was reported to 911 just before 5:15 a.m. in the 300 block of Mortimer Avenue.
According to police, a 28-year-old woman told the 911 dispatcher her boyfriend was assaulting her when she shot him. Police said Broadus was shot multiple times. He was dead at the scene.
Police said a physical dispute between the man and woman began at about 2 a.m. after the man refused to leave her residence. Authorities have not released the name of the woman, whom they say was repeatedly assaulted and was held against her will for about three hours.
According to investigators, Broadus threatened to kill the woman and began looking for a legally purchased gun she kept in the home.
The woman got to the weapon first, shot Broadus as he came toward her and then left the home and contacted 911, police said.
Police indicated that once their investigation is complete, they’ll turn over the case to the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office to determine if charges are warranted.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the county police tip line at 1-833-255-8477. Callers can remain anonymous.
