Man charged in connection with fatal Wilkinsburg shooting
Allegheny County police arrested a man Friday morning in connection with a deadly July shooting in Wilkinsburg that left another man dead, authorities said.
Jordan Cobb, 23, of Pittsburgh, is charged with homicide, tampering with evidence and firearms violations. A criminal complaint against Cobb was not immediately available.
The late-morning shooting happened July 26 near the intersection of Ardmore Boulevard and Marlboro Avenue, according to police. Cortez Lucas, 27, was found shot inside his vehicle and died a short time later at the hospital.
According to the criminal complaint filed against Cobb, a witness told police he’d been stopped at the intersection across the street from the shooting. He said he heard gunshots from the direction of the cars involved and saw a silver car speed off on Marlboro.
A second witness provided security camera footage to police, which investigators said showed a grey sedan matching the first witness’s description speed by. Other cameras in Pittsburgh and Swissvale gave police a license plate number that led them to an Enterprise rental car.
Police said the rental car paperwork led them to a third witness who said they’d rented the car for Cobb. They said they’d rented cars for Cobb before and so didn’t think twice about it this time, according to the complaint.
Investigators tracked Cobb to Hawkins Village apartment complex in Rankin and saw him walk into an apartment, according to the complaint. A man inside the apartment initially denied there were any other men inside but the leaseholder, a woman, eventually allowed them to search the apartment.
Police said they found Cobb hiding in a second floor closet. He broke free as officers took him into custody and he was apprehended as he ran across Braddock Avenue, according to the complaint.
Cell phone data analyzed later would also place Cobb in the area of Ardmore Boulevard and Marlboro Avenue at the time of the shooting, according to the criminal complaint.
