Allegheny County sheriffs have arrested a man who was wanted for allegedly shooting his wife earlier this winter and leaving her injured on the side of a highway.

Kevin Crew, 37, whose home address is unknown, had been wanted since Nov. 28, 2022 for the shooting incident, when he left his injured wife on the I-579 ramp to the Boulevard of The Allies, authorities said.

In addition to charges connected to the shooting of his wife, Crew was wanted on a bench warrant for an access device fraud case, authorities said.

He was charged Saturday as a person not to possess a firearm, and for hindering apprehension.

An arrest warrant was issued in November for Crew, who faced two counts of aggravated assault and a count of carrying a firearm without a license, which are felonies. He also was charged with possession of an instrument of crime, illegal possession of a firearm and reckless endangerment.

Crew is not allowed to possess a gun because he pleaded guilty in 2018 to a count of escape, police said.

Police responded to the intersection of I-579 and Boulevard of the Allies at about 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 28 and found the woman in critical condition, according to investigators. She was transported to UPMC Mercy hospital Uptown for treatment, where her condition was upgraded to serious, but stable.

When detectives questioned the woman at the hospital she told them that she was driving from their home in Northview Heights when she and Crew began arguing, according to a criminal complaint.

She said Crew accused her of not being truthful with him and then pulled out a gun and shot her in the leg, according to the complaint.

Crew ordered her to keep driving, but she refused and pulled the vehicle over and got out, the complaint said. Crew then got behind the wheel and drove off, leaving her along the ramp to I-579, which is near the Duquesne University campus, investigators said.

Detectives responded around 11 a.m. Saturday to an apartment in the 7000 block of Apple Street in Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood to locate Crew, and found Chelsey McIntosh, Crew’s current girlfriend, according to Sheriff Kevin Kraus.

McIntosh told detectives that Crew wasn’t there and that she had not seen him for two days. McIntosh then admitted while being questioned that she had been arranging locations where Crew could stay, according to Fraus. Detectives then located Crew in an adjacent apartment, which was vacant.

Crew was taken into custody without incident and detectives also recovered a 9mm handgun.

“I commend my detectives and personnel for swiftly acting on the information they developed today leading to the apprehension of this dangerous individual,” Sheriff Kraus said. “The actions of this defendant represented a clear threat to the victim and the public.”

Crew currently is at Allegheny County Jail, awaiting arraignment.
