A man with warrants against him was apprehended in Pittsburgh’s Spring Garden neighborhood Tuesday after he barricaded himself inside a home, according to Public Safety spokeswoman.

Officers went to the 1200 block of Seidle Street to serve a protection from abuse order for Joseph Paulik, 46, of Pittsburgh around 6:30 p.m., according to a criminal complaint. When officers knocked on the front door, they observed a man inside running up the steps.

Paulik has outstanding warrants from multiple jurisdictions, and neighbors told police they had recently seen him with a gun. His sister, who answered the door, told police it was Paulik who had run upstairs.

Police said Paulik barricaded himself on the second floor of the residence and would not respond to officers. His sister and mother were safely evacuated from the house, according to a sworn affidavit.

Paulik attempted to elude officers after getting to the roof through an upper-story window, but was apprehended shortly before 9 p.m., according to court documents.

Paulik was taken to a hospital for medical clearance, after which he was transported to the Allegheny County Jail to await arraignment on charges of fleeing from police, resisting arrest and a related misdemeanor charge or prohibited acts.

No injuries were reported.
