The Celebrity Care Fest, which hasn’t been held since 2019, returned to Pine as a two-day event the weekend of July 22-23.

The theme for the weekend promoted by the HM3 Partners Independence Fund with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins and Pirates was “Unity & Equality for All.”

A “Unity Dinner” was held on July 22, followed by the Care Fest concert on July 23. About 130 people attended the Friday dinner catered by Walnut Grill, and about 1,000 attended on Saturday, according to Michael Young, managing partner of HM3 Media.

At the dinner, actress Jane Seymour and civil rights activist Xernona Clayton were honored for their efforts toward unity and equality. Clayton was unable to attend.

An “Open Hearts” sculpture designed by Seymour was displayed on both days.

In May, Pittsburgh’s Art Commission denied a proposal to place the sculpture on Mt. Washington’s Grandview Avenue Overlook. HM3 Partners Independence Fund is looking for a location for the sculpture to be on permanent public display in the Pittsburgh area, Young said.

The entertainment on Saturday went on after some stormy weather went through in the early afternoon, Young said. It featured performances by Queen V (Veronica Stigeler-Cowher), The Temptations, Lou Gramm and The Jacksons, with Zambelli Fireworks providing a fireworks and laser light finale.

Young said proceeds from the event are being directed to the caring of people, improving food insecurity and access to quality healthcare.

Two beneficiaries who addressed the audience on Saturday are Cam Heyward, of the Cam Heyward Foundation and The Heyward House, and Ryan Shazier, of the Ryan Shazier Spinal Rehabilitation Fund.

Other beneficiaries of the 2022 Celebrity Care Fest include Allegheny Health Network, Butler Health System, Excela Health and Heritage Valley Health System.

Additional beneficiaries are being added, Young said.
