Fall festival in October

Celebrate the Season at A&N Garden and Greenhouse’s sixth annual fall festival in Franklin Park.

The festival will feature activities including a pumpkin patch, games, hayrides, kids’ zone, pumpkin painting, food, fall décor, and fresh flower bouquets and arrangement.

Dates are Oct. 5, 6, 12 and 13, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. Admission is free. A&N is at 2130 Reis Run.

Climate change presentation

Join Longvue Acres Garden Club members on Sept. 24 for a presentation by Chris Kubiak, director of education for the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania.

Kubiak will present “The Impacts of Climate Change on Specific Western Pennsylvania Plants,” with a focus on the shifting growing zones in our area, disease pressures on plants and issues with pollination timing. Also included will be a discussion on “Project Budburst,” which studies the timing and cyclical patterns of the blooming of local plants in relation to climate change.

The presentation will begin at 7:45 p.m., following a 7 o’clock business meeting, at Northmont United Presbyterian Church, 8169 Perry Highway, McCandless.

Programs are on the fourth Tuesday of the month, and are free and open to the public. For more information, contact longvueacresgardenclub1950@gmail.com.

Recycling change

Franklin Park Borough announces that residents are now able to recycle glass (jars, jugs and bottles only) and No. 5 plastics in their curbside recycling containers.

Waste Management made the change after completing $23 million in upgrades to its Neville Island recycling facility.
