‘That’s Osteoporosis’

An informative discussion about an increasingly prevalent bone-weakening disease is scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 12 at Heritage and Cultural Center, 830 Aufman Lane, McCandless.

Rashelle Maderitz, a rheumatology advanced practice provider with Tri Rivers Musculoskeletal Centers, will present “That’s Osteoporosis,” covering how general bone health can be threatened by a condition that is easily detected and treated.

Topics include risk factors, both uncontrollable and controllable; the importance of screening, diagnosing and treating patients with osteoporosis or osteopenia, a decrease in bone mineral density; and four steps to healthy movement used to prevent and treat osteoporosis.

Suggested donation is $10. Register by emailing jbojarski@townofmccandless.org or call 412-364-2250.

McCandless Community Day

Community Day will take place in McCandless on Sept. 14.

The event will kick off with a performance by the North Allegheny Marching Band and concludes with fireworks. Additionally, there will be rides, face painting, balloon animals, performances (including the Allegheny Brass Band) and food trucks.

Pumpkin fest vendors sought

Ascension Lutheran Church is planning its 10th annual Pumpkin Fest and Flea Market for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 12 at 8225 Peebles Road, McCandless.

Homemade apple and pumpkin pies will be for sale, along with hot dogs, homemade soups, beverages and, of course, pumpkins.

Vendors for the flea market can reserve a space for $20 by contacting vickig@zoominternet. net or calling 724-816-0413.

McCandless Crossing concert series

McCandless Crossing is hosting its annual outdoor summer concert series and introduces a new jazz offering on the second Sunday afternoon of each month throughout the summer.

The weekly series runs through Sept. 30 and features local and regional performers in a variety of musical genres. Concerts take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and Thursday under the large white canopy tent on the Town Green, between Old Navy and Ethan Allen.

North Hills Community Outreach will hold a food donation drive at the Sept. 12 concert. Northland Public Library volunteers will host children’s activities at concerts on Aug. 29 and Sept. 16.

Jazz on the Green is from 1 to 3 p.m. each second Sunday through September. For the entire summer concert schedule, visit www.mccandless crossing.com.
