To the editor:
At the corner of Elfinwild and Mt. Royal Blvd. is HEARTH, and its transitional housing for homeless/DV women and their children. The bus stop is on the opposite side of the street across a narrow road bridge with no sidewalk and a steep gully on both sides. There is also a curve in the road shortly before the bridge.
I’ve seen these women, carrying their babies and pushing their strollers, have to walk directly into traffic to reach the bus stop. There is no crosswalk, no foot path and no pedestrian bridge. There’s really nowhere else that would be safe to move the bus stop to, but there are also no safety measures in place to help people get to that bus stop without getting run over.
A few months ago I contacted Shaler Township, they said that Mt. Royal Blvd. is a state road and they cannot do anything, and they contacted PennDOT. Since nothing has happened, I contacted PennDOT, and I was told that they cannot do anything because the sidewalks are owned by the township.
I just don’t want people getting run over, and this finger-pointing is ridiculous.
