The Hampton Township Council voted unanimously at its Sept. 28 meeting to commission a traffic study to determine if putting a four-way stop sign at Topnick Drive at Park Road would improve safety and traffic flow near Hampton High School.
Police Chief Thomas Vulakovich said earlier this month that traffic is “heavily congested” at Topnick Drive at the school’s entrance in the morning and during events at night, and that there have been “close calls” with accidents.
During the Sept. 14 council meeting, Christopher Lochner, municipal manager, agreed that a four-way stop sign is needed or “someone’s going to get hurt.”
At the Sept. 28 meeting, the council also unanimously voted to move meetings of township council, the zoning hearing board, planning commission and environmental council back to the municipal building conference room, starting in October.
The meetings had been moved to the Hampton Community Center to allow for social distancing due to the covid-19 pandemic.
“It’s been a long time,” said councilman Joseph Dougherty.
Lochner said earlier this month that updates to the conference room — such as installing new camera equipment — won’t be complete until late December or January.
