Here are some of the top stories from around the Lower Valley this week:
• Fox Chapel Area elementary students will return to class on Nov. 5
Fox Chapel Area School Board approved a move to send elementary students back to five-day, in-person instruction, beginning Nov. 5.
Middle school and high school students will remain in the hybrid learning model for now.
Virtual programs will remain available for elementary families who choose those options.
• Fox Chapel Baseball Softball Association gets $200,000 from state for field work
Emmerling Park will see major upgrades in summer 2021 after Fox Chapel Baseball Softball Association landed a $200,000 state grant to upgrade fields there.
Money will be made available through the state Gaming Economic Development and Tourism Fund.
• Restaurant coming to RIDC Park in early 2021
Periwinkle’s, an American-style eatery with burgers, soups and salads, will open at 900 Gamma Drive in O’Hara, just off the Allegheny Valley Expressway.
The restaurant will have seating for about 110 people and will include a patio for outdoor dining.
• O’Hara doctor wins Rising Star Award
Local doctor Deborah DiNardo, the director of women’s health at VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System and a resident of O’Hara, was awarded the VA’s 2020 David M. Worthen Rising Star Award.
The national award is given annually to an early-career professional for excellence in health professions education.
