Here are some of the top stories for the week of May 17, 2021:
• Covid-19 vaccine clinic offered to people 12 and older.
Fox Chapel Area School District is hosting a vaccination clinic May 24 at O’Hara Elementary School.
The Pfizer vaccine will be available to people ages 12 and older. Registration is at fcasd.edu.
• Kayaking closed, at least temporarily, at Aspinwall Riverfront Park.
Kayak Pittsburgh will not open for rentals this summer at Aspinwall Riverfront Park.
The site was open for five years but did not garner enough traffic, organizers said.
Park officials are seeking a new partner to offer kayaking.
• O’Hara supports coal tar alternatives.
They didn’t approve a ban, but O’Hara council said it supports using alternatives to coal tar in the township.
In recent months, Hampton, Fox Chapel, Aspinwall, Millvale and Sharpsburg have taken a stand against the use of coal tar, a black liquid that is a potent source of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon (PAH) contamination.
• Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Department purchases new aerial truck.
Just as they mark their 150th year in service, Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Department bought a new aerial truck to serve the community.
A $700,000 Spartan Metro Star 75-foot aerial truck replaces a former vehicle more than two decades old.
Improved safety features on the new truck include seating for six with self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) units, better ladder lighting, a larger pump and more hose.
