Sharpsburg art show highlights Artists in Recovery

Nicole Harber, of Plum, was part of the Artist in Recovery art show hosted by the Sharpsburg Community Library on Sept. 17, 2022, and sponsored by Community Care Behavioral Health. Harber had been treated in UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital for depression. She made a crayon drawing of dark clouds and the sun coming out, Community Care organizers said.

Yafa Negreti, of Squirrel Hill and originally from Mexico displays her artwork at the Artists in Recovery art show at the Sharpsburg Community Library on Sept. 17. Negreti is a graphic designer, illustrator and portrait artist. The art show was sponsored by Community Care Behavioral Health to show the connection between art and wellness.

William O’Hanlon, of Lincoln Place, was part of the Artists in Recovery art show on Sept. 17, 2022, at the Sharpsburg Community Library sponsored by Community Care Behavioral Health. O’Hanlon had moved to Los Angeles, owned a business, walked away from it and became homeless. He spent a decade in prison, lived in motel for five years before moving back to Pittsburgh, Community Care organizers said.

The Sharpsburg Community Library hosted an in-person artist reception on Sept. 17 to recognize National Recovery Month in September.

“Artists in Recovery” enabled artists to shared their art and approaches celebrating mental and physical recovery and creativity.

The event was sponsored by Community Care Behavioral Health, which is celebrating its 25th year. It is a subsidiary of UPMC and part of the UPMC Insurance Services Division. The art show was part of its anniversary series of events.
