O’Hara council on Feb. 9 laid out its summer paving project, saying it is eyeing nine roads for improvements with the possibility of adding six alternates.

The township’s $13.9 million budget includes $1.1 million for road work.

Residents can expect to see the following roads milled and resurfaced in 2021:

Kappa, Alleyne, Dowling, Weir, Village and Meadow Heights drives; and Division and Joanne streets (both north and south).

Depending on costs, alternates could include Davonshire, Emily, Fox Ridge Farms and Fairgrove drives; Queens Court; and Papercraft Avenue.

Council approved joint bidding for the road improvement program with Fox Chapel, as it has for several years, to capitalize on better prices.

In other news, council approved the relocation of a stop sign from Parkview Boulevard to Kirkwood Drive, on the southbound approach.

The move was based on a recommendation by township Engineer Chuck Steinert, who reviewed traffic at the intersection.

“The existing stop sign is positioned nearly 70 feet beyond the intersection, and traffic on Kirkwood Drive travels at a higher rate of speed,” Steinert said.

“Relocating the stop sign will create a safer intersection for motorists and pedestrians.”

Council also approved the installation of a stop sign on Weir Drive at Oakhurst Road.

Township Manager Julie Jakubec said staff has been verifying authorized traffic signs in connection with the Codification of Ordinances project.

“It was realized a yield sign, authorized by ordinance, does not exist and upon further investigation, staff is recommending a stop sign there,” she said.
