Indiana Township welcoming letters of interest for various positions

Indiana Township is accepting letters of interest from people who want to serve on the historical commission, shade tree commission and parks and recreation board.

Send letters to Township Manager Dan Anderson, 3710 Saxonburg Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15238.

Trib journalism scholarships available

Trib Total Media is now accepting applications for both the Scholarship for Diversity in Media and the Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship.

The Scholarship for Diversity in Media is open to high school seniors who are culturally, ethnically or racially diverse and are planning to study journalism, communication or English writing at a four-year college or university.

The scholarship will include financial assistance of up to $7,500 per year for four years, a guaranteed annual internship with Trib Total Media and an offer for full-time employment upon graduation.

The Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship is offered to high school or college students attending — or planning to attend — a four-year college or university to study journalism, English writing or communication. The recipient will earn up to $30,000 in scholarship money awarded in annual installments of up to $7,500, an annual internship with Trib Total Media and an offer for full-time employment upon graduation.

The deadline to apply is Jan. 31.

K9 fundraiser successful

Indiana Township resident Marie Golio hosted a fundraiser for the township’s K9 program and raised more than $1,400.

The scrapbooking event, in its fifth year, included an auction and a 50/50 raffle. The event has brought in more than $6,000 over the past five years for the K9 program.

Women’s Board fashion show slated

The Women’s Board of Pittsburgh will host its virtual fundraising event on Jan. 28 and 29.

Proceeds will benefit the Children’s Program of the Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh and the Middle School Boys Program of The Neighborhood Academy.

The fundraiser will include a fashion show by Carabella of Oakmont and a cooking demonstration by big Burrito’s Chef Bill Fuller.

Aspinwall hires part-time officer

Aspinwall police have a new addition. Ashley Polka joined the department as its newest part-time officer.

Polka was sworn in by Mayor Joe Noro and council Nov. 12.

Libraries suspend in-person services

Cooper-Siegel Community Library and Sharpsburg Community Library have suspended all in-person services until further notice.

Both locations are providing curbside service, so community members can still have access to books, audiobooks, video games, Wi-Fi hotspots, magazines and DVDs as needed.

Harvest Fair paused

The appointment-only Harvest Fair at Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church is on hold because of the new Allegheny County covid-19 guidelines.

Networking sessions on tap

The Allegheny Valley Chapter of Women’s Business Network meets at 8 a.m. the first and third Tuesdays of the month at the Gold Shield Professional Building, 817 Main St., Sharpsburg.

This is a hybrid meeting with virtual attendance also possible.
