Learn to speak Italian, get the basics of yoga or much, much more during the fall semester at Fox Chapel Area Adult Education.

Registration is underway for the newest slate of classes offered by the nonprofit.

“We exist to provide adults with access to the Fox Chapel Area School District facilities, the pool being a major one,” executive director Sue Goodwin said.

Founded in 1963, FCAAE is an outreach program of the school district that provides enrichment classes to adults at a low tuition.

The program receives facility support from the district but is kept financially afloat only through student tuition.

Classes cover a variety of topics from history, photography, technology and gardening. Costs vary, as sessions range from one night to semester-long.

This fall, there will be free offerings to mark the group’s upcoming 60th anniversary. A total of six classes will be provided free throughout the next year — one for every decade of FCAAE’s continuous service.

On Sept. 7, there will be a free live Zoom fitness class. Later in the semester, on Nov. 1, FCAAE will offer a prep course called “Opera Talk: Marriage of Figaro,” in advance of the show’s opening in November at Heinz Hall.

Other courses this fall include a specialty session on succulents, a tutorial called “The Art of Making Fougasse Bread” and classes on bone health and balance.

There’s basketball, swimming lessons, lap swimming, chair yoga and calligraphy.

“Who can resist learning about how chocolate is healthy for you?” Goodwin said, citing the “Chocolate as Medicine” class on Oct. 13. “We all know chocolate is a delicious treat, but did you know it also has many health benefits? Spend a fun evening with Master Gardener Andrea Jackson and learn the many ways chocolate is good for you and your body.”

Classes are open to the public, not just those who live in the Fox Chapel Area.

Registration is open at fcaae.org.
