Languages, woodworking, history and opera all topics in fall semester at Fox Chapel Area Adult Education
Exercise enthusiasts, language lovers and people with a passion for plants have a bevy of programs to choose from during the new semester of Fox Chapel Area Adult Education.
Classes have varying start dates but registration is open now.
“It’s back to school time for adults too,” Executive Director Sue Goodwin said.
She cited a variety in the curriculum from “Opera Talk” to “Mah Jongg” “Hidden Gems of Italy.”
“These are classes that will help you learn, discover and thrive,” Goodwin said.
The nonprofit, in its 61st year, offers a variety of high-quality classes for residents of the Fox Chapel Area School District and beyond.
Costs vary. There are an array of weekly classes and some that are special one-night-only.
Most are hosted at the district’s high school, but some are available on Zoom.
Goodwin said the fall lineup features 28 new classes on more than 40 topics.
Three exciting offerings include one for liquor connoisseurs, “Making Your Own Limoncello,” and two for do-it-yourselfers, “Design Challenges” and “Small Furniture Refinishing.”
“Looking for ways to improve your health and well-being? Returning favorites pickleball, basketball and swim, will be joined by Pilates, women’s fitness and strength training, kickboxing and yoga,” she said.
There’s a course called “Improving Your Golf Swing” and one that Goodwin said is perfect for caregivers, teachers and grandparents — CPR/AED training.
Foodies might enjoy cookie decorating or a course called “Preserving Your Herbal Harvest.”
For people who love plants, there will be a class on how to successfully grow low-light varieties that can thrive during the upcoming fall and winter season.
Goodwin said there will be classes in French, Spanish and Italian language, with an emphasis on conversation for travel. Artists might like the creative outlet of learning calligraphy or working with clay, woodworking or wheel-throwing.
“There are so many ways to express yourself,” she said.
History buffs can learn about “Anti-Semitism: Past and Present” and engage in a timely conversation in “Civil Dialogue and Constitutional Conversations.”
