Keystone Collections
Sharpsburg officials have approved Keystone Collections as its new mercantile/business tax collector.
Keystone is the current wage tax collector.
Bob Brose, the previous business tax collector, retired in March.
Council unanimously voted May 26 to amend its tax ordinance to allow the borough to consider proposals from a third party collection agency.
It subsequently voted to appoint Keystone Collections as the new collector.
Interim borough Manager Jason Dailey said the mercantile/business tax generates about $250,000 for the borough.
Building dedication
Sharpsburg’s new public works facility near the corner of 19th and Chapman streets will be dedicated at 1 p.m. June 17.
The site is a former lumber yard. It is a few blocks from the existing site.
The building cost was estimated at $700,000.
Plans for the former location may be announced at the dedication ceremony.
Former Mayor Don Ferraro and current Mayor Betty Reno will be guest speakers.
