It wasn’t a hole in one, but for Foxwall EMS, it was something even better.

The group landed a grant of at least $15,000 after the Rotary Club of Fox Chapel hit the links for its annual fundraiser in September.

The event brought in more than $45,000 — a record — which will be divvied among local charities and civic organizations.

“The Rotarians have been very supportive of Foxwall,” Chief Tony Cuda said. “This benefit golf outing is allowing Foxwall to expand and update lifesaving technology.”

Proceeds will help pay for a new ventilator, which will give Foxwall greater capacity to better care for severe respiratory and cardiac patients, he said.

“We are extremely grateful because a small service like Foxwall needs community support to continue to advance,” Cuda said.

The Rotary Charity Golf Outing was Sept. 18 at Hill Crest Country Club in Lower Burrell.

A total of 84 golfers participated under sunny skies, according to event co-chairs Jim Michaels and Harrison Lauer.

Tee sponsors and corporate sponsors raised $21,000, while a companion raffle for 10 high-value prizes brought in another $18,000.

Distribution of the remainder of the grants will be announced this fall.

Foxwall, founded in 1978, serves Aspinwall and Fox Chapel. It also provides mutual aid in the surrounding communities.

A primarily volunteer staff responded to more than 1,500 calls in 2022, more than double the number of calls from 2021, Michaels said.

Bob Trimble, president of the local Rotary, said most of the club’s 100 members participated in the fundraiser.

A special shout-out went to new member, Ginny Merchant, who sold 301 $20 raffle tickets, raising more than $6,000 on her own.

“Whether playing in the event or buying raffle tickets or soliciting corporate sponsors, we can count on our members to step up and pitch in,” Trimble said.

The Rotary grants committee will be reviewing applications to distribute the balance of the money.

The club meets at 11:45 a.m. most Wednesdays at the Lauri Ann West Community Center in O’Hara.
