Fox Chapel expects to hold tax rate steady
Fox Chapel residents are likely to pay the same in property taxes next year after council approved its tentative $9.2 million budget.
The tax rate is expected to remain at 2.95 mills, the same as it’s been since 2019.
“It’s the 16th lowest in Allegheny County, and it includes garage door garbage pickup,” Manager Gary Koehler said.
Council will take a final vote during its meeting on Dec. 18.
Next year’s revenue is expected to come in at $9.25 million, about $16,800 over expenses of $9.23 million.
Highlights of the budget include $344,000 for capital improvements that include new trucks for the public works department, hoses for the fire department, a computer server and building maintenance equipment.
The total public safety budget is $2.5 million.
New this year is a line item to begin implementing the joint comprehensive plan recommendations.
The borough joined with O’Hara to develop a long-term plan that addresses, among other issues, traffic congestion and transportation opportunities. The goal is to improve the quality of life for residents.
Consultants, Pashek+MTR, compiled results of a survey that was answered by more than 1,300 residents. It appears that people are interested in increased safety, more walking and biking trails, speed enforcement, improved public transportation and flood prevention.
Council budgeted $100,000 toward costs in 2024.
Projects have not yet been reviewed and recommended by the joint committee, Koehler said.
“The implementable comprehensive plan will then have to be adopted by each community,” he said.
The budget is available for public review at the borough building, 401 Fox Chapel Road.
