Fox Chapel Area to host virtual story time for prospective kindergarteners
Kindergarten story times typically offered as part of the Fox Chapel Area orientation for new students will be hosted virtually, beginning this month.
District leaders said they didn’t want to miss the opportunity to reach out to prospective students, despite the lingering pandemic and related social distancing guidelines.
“The school district wanted to provide a safe and accessible way to welcome our 2021-2022 kindergarten students and their families,” Bonnie Berzonski, district coordinator of communications, said.
Story times are offered as part of the new student orientation and break the ice during the introduction between the new students and teachers. The event strives to develop positive relationships between them, she said.
Each of the four elementary schools – Fairview, Hartwood, Kerr and O’Hara – will host the event.
Dates are:
- Fairview: 2 to 3 p.m. on Feb. 10, March 17 and April 14.
- Hartwood: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 10, March 18 and April 15.
- Kerr 2 to 3 p.m. on Feb. 9 and March 15.
- O’Hara: 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. on Feb. 8, March 15 and April 12 for students with last names beginning with A-K and from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. on Feb. 9, March 16 and April 13 for those with last names beginning with L-Z.
“The story times will serve as the foundation for future learning and development,” Berzonski said.
Children must be 5 years old before Sept. 1 to be admitted to kindergarten in the 2021-2022 school year. A birth certificate, immunization records, two proofs of residency and a photo ID must be presented for registration.
