Members of the Fox Chapel Educators Association recently conducted a fall non-food drive for items needed by the Sharpsburg Community Library and the Second Harvest Thrift Store pantries. Among the hundreds of items collected were personal care items, baby items, household cleaning items and items for pets.
“Our students are part of the larger community in which they live,” said association president, Rachel Machen. “We are dedicated to improving the lives of not just our students, but the community as a whole.”

Three Fox Chapel Area High School speech and debate team members recently placed in the annual Pittsburgh District Novice Tournament. The team of freshmen Joanna Li and Simon Littwin won fourth place in Parliamentary Debate, and sophomore Swati Mylarappa won sixth place in Impromptu Speaking.
Additionally, due to their performances in speech and debate and Model United Nations tournaments over the last 10 days, Joanna and freshman Ori Goldin earned their lifetime membership in the National Speech and Debate Association.
The Pittsburgh District Novice Tournament was held Oct. 29 at Pine-Richland High School. More than 200 students representing 22 public and private high schools from Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia competed.

Eight Fox Chapel Area High School students recently won awards at two Model United Nations Conferences.
The team of sophomores Ori Goldin and Ulyana Kubini won an honorable mention, equivalent to third place, at the University of Virginia Model UN Conference. Junior Logan Dressman and sophomores Swati Mylarappa and Holden Starz each won verbal commendations, equivalent to fourth place.
Students from public and private high schools from several states, including Connecticut, Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia participated Oct. 21-23 at the University of Virginia.
Four Fox Chapel Area High School students won awards at the University of Pittsburgh Model UN High School Conference. Juniors Connor Mazzoni and Logan Dressman, and sophomores Benjamin Fiedler and Arnim Kuchhal each won honorable mention, which are equivalent to third place, awards.
More than 250 students from 18 public and private high schools from Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia competed Oct. 26 at the University of Pittsburgh.
The purpose of the Model UN conferences is to enable students to role-play and simulate countries in the United Nations. Students debate and try to solve global problems from the perspectives of other countries.
