Fifty-eight young women from Dorseyville Middle School were recognized for their achievements in STEM — science, technology, engineering and math — fields. Due to Covid restrictions, the traditional ceremony, sponsored by the American Association of University Women, Fox Chapel Area Affiliate, could not be held in person. The young women received certificates in the mail recognizing their performance.

The young women, in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades, were chosen for the award by their teachers, based on the student’s abilities, strong interest in and enthusiasm for STEM subjects, and participation in school and class projects. AAUW members are hopeful the award will encourage those honored to pursue STEM studies in high school and beyond.

Honorees in science were: Mattea Basile, Emiko Brasfield, Maggie Carter, Marta Christlieb, Claire Conti, Catherine Conway, Nadre Digbohou, Sophia Feng, Remi Goldstein, Maggie Jones, Nora Kelley, Rachel Kim, Lila McKechnie, Willa Meyer, Elizabeth Passavant, Alyssa Poole, Melinda Story, Umayma Trebak, Cora Watters, and Julia Yannotti.

Outstanding in computer science and technology were: Sara Filar, Riley Hemingray, Zinta Jacob, Liesel Schwartz, Maren Shelkey-Bray, Maris Silva, Kanyapat (Patty) Wesaratchakit, and Helen Xu.

Prachi Behal, London Bitar, Summer Burkhart, Vida Catone, Anna Chrissis, Molly Classen, Ana Sofia Davit, Sarah Jane Dering, Brynn Gamblin, Ainsley Goode, Elizabeth Hamilla, Bridget Hemingray, Eloise Johnson, Ianna Kabagambe, Margaret Klamut, Breahna Koffler, Emily Korczynski, Norah Kovach, Ulyana Kubini, Corrine Leas, Corey O’Toole, Melanie Pletz, Allie Coen Reyer, Nevaeh Snyder, Eliana Wellman, and Emily Wilson excelled in mathematics.

Two honorees, Annabel Berkowitz and Divya Thirumala, were nominated for achievement in both science and mathematics; Caroline Franklin was nominated in both science and technology.
