Dog-lovers can bring pups to Camp Guyasuta for 5th annual Hound Hike
Camp Guyasuta will host a day of dog-gone fun in September when people and their four-legged friends are invited to enjoy the scenic grounds.
The 5th annual Hound Hike provides dogs and owners a day of pet-friendly vendors, demonstrations and of course, hiking on the tree-lined trails.
The event is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 17.
Camp Guyasuta can be accessed off 23rd Street in Sharpsburg.
“We started this event a few years ago because people would ask to walk their dogs through the camp, which is normally not permitted,” Ranger Mike Daniher said.
“This is a special event to allow people to walk with dogs to the waterfall, visit vendors and enjoy the beauty of camp.”
There will be food for sale and pet pics with Santa.
Cost is $15 online for the first dog and $10 for additional dogs.
Tickets will be $25 at the gate.
Daniher said proceeds will be used to pay for ongoing improvements at the camp.
The 175-acre property is nestled in a valley just below Route 28. There are hiking trails, a swimming pool, ropes course, archery, a fire pit and more.
All dogs that attend must be kept on a leash and have up-to-date tags.
“If you don’t have a dog but would still like to attend just to take a hike and see the activities, we just ask you to register and give a donation of your choice,” Daniher said.
