Cullen, Petrucelli earn 4-year terms on O'Hara Council

Two newcomers, a Republican and a Democrat, were elected to O’Hara Council on Tuesday for four-year terms.

Democrat Paul Cullen handily won the top spot with 2,072 votes, followed by Shamus Petrucelli with 1,704. Petrucelli is a Republican who won enough Democratic votes in the spring to appear on both tickets.

The positions are at large.

“It was a great race down the stretch and (I) want to thank (my opponents) for a hard-fought battle,” Petrucelli said.

“I look forward to helping keep O’Hara moving forward. I believe both Paul and I will bring a lot to the current council, which has done a fantastic job.”

Petrucelli, 51, currently serves on the township’s parks and recreation commission. He wants to see recreational space continue to grow.

He said he would like the township to continue to acquire land for park expansion.

Cullen, 64, said he ran for council to contribute to the success of the community.

As a general contractor of more than 30 years, Cullen said his experience with building and infrastructure will enable him to find resolutions to challenges the township faces in the construction of roads, buildings and trails.

“Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote in this election,” Cullen said. “I am looking forward to working alongside Mr. Petrucelli, as well as the existing council members to improve our neighborhood.

“I will always be receptive to new ideas and improvements and will have an open mind to any suggestions to enhance our township.”
