After two years in a covid-related hiatus, the Blawnox Easter Egg Hunt will return Sunday April 10 with cookie decorating, crafts and hundreds of candy-filled plastic eggs hidden in Community Park.

Hosted by the nonprofit Best of Blawnox, the event is scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m. at the park along Center Avenue.

“We’re excited because it gives an opportunity for the children in Blawnox and surrounding areas to get together and hopefully experience a sense of community,” said co-organizer Diane Casile.

All of the events around the egg hunt are free. There also will be refreshments and a balloon artist.

First launched in 2017 as a joint effort between the borough’s religious institutions, the event was aimed at offering a social function for children, teens and adults.

Co-organizer Ashley Lubinski said that still rings true.

“There’s refreshments for everyone, and people of all ages are invited to do the cookie-decorating,” she said. “It’s just nice for everyone to come together.”

Best of Blawnox is a community advocacy group founded in 2021. Volunteers schedule outreach throughout the year to benefit residents, such as snow shoveling for senior citizens or townwide litter cleanups.

Lubinski has been a Blawnox resident for 12 years. With two children who have attended past egg hunts, Lubinski said she is excited to be part of the planning this year.

“This is my first time doing anything with this group, and to be able to do something that used to be considered normal is awesome,” she said. “It’s just supposed to be fun.”

Organizers are planning for 100 children but are prepared for many more, she said.

“There will be eggs for all!” she said.
