Food Podcast: The Black and Gold Book of Gratitude to fight hunger
The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and Citrone 33 Foundation have announced a fundraising collaborative supporting the food bank’s mission to eliminate hunger.
A family foundation, Citrone 33 is a strategic collective that focuses on philanthropy through thoughtful investing and social movements.
Through the Embrace Pittsburgh initiative, supported by the Pittsburgh Steelers and UPMC, the foundation created the Little Black and Gold Book of Gratitude. The book is filled with 33 gratitude quotes and reflections from Steelers legends past and present.
Gabby Citrone, outreach director for the foundation, joined host Brian Gulish on this week’s Food Podcast presented by Clearview Federal Credit Union.
“We designed this tool to introduce the skill of gratitude into the lives of those who may not be familiar with it,” said Citrone. “Gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness, more positive emotion, improving health and dealing with adversity.”
Books can be obtained with a small donation to the food bank.
“When we went to the Steelers, Mr. Rooney said this was a great project and he’d really like to support the food bank through this initiative,” said Citrone.
The Citrone Family is a minority owner of the Steelers.
“Sports are one of the heartbeats of our city,” said Gulish. “Having the direct support of the Steelers and through partnerships such as this one with the Citrone 33 Foundation, it enables our organization to reach more people and make a greater impact in the community.”
Last week, Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey and defensive end Cam Heyward joined the Food Bank to provide 400 families with turkey’s and fixin’ boxes for the Thanksgiving holiday. Steelers players have been associated with Food Bank holiday distributions since 2013.
