Disc golf can be played in any season.

On this week’s episode of the Food Podcast presented by Clearview Federal Credit Union on the TribLIVE podcast network, Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank talks about a fun way to get outside while supporting your neighbors this winter.

Players are gearing up for the 21st Annual Pittsburgh Flying Disc Ice Bowl, an event which supports Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

Mark Prestopnik said the Ice Bowl is a national event that encourages local clubs to hold a disc golf fundraiser each winter for a local charity.

The event has raised $25K for the Food Bank over the years, with a record-breaking 241 participants last year.

“It’s a really fun sport because you can take it very casually and pick up a frisbee you have laying around in your garage and go up to Schenley Park and find the course there. Or you can take it very seriously. There is a whole professional tour now,” said Prestopnik.

Prestopnik said this event is great for people when it comes to flexibility. This year people can register online in a group of 3-5 people and play the Schenley Park Disc Golf Course anytime between Feb. 12 and 20. Registration is $20 per person.

Prestopnik said prizes are available. People can register here.
