Mindful Brewing Co.
Mindful Brewing Co. is one of several Pennsylvania breweries participating in the Hops For Hunger campaign this November to raise money for hunger relief.

On this week’s episode of the food podcast presented by Clearview Federal Credit Union on the Trib Live Podcast network, Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank talks beer.

Feeding Pennsylvania and PA Eats are joining forces with breweries across the state to raise money for hunger relief through the first Hops For Hunger campaign this November. This is a month-long, statewide fundraiser with proceeds benefiting Feeding PA’s mission and supports the development of nutrition education resources created by PA Eats for Feeding Pennsylvania’s network of food pantries.

In Western Pa., Mondays Brewing Company (located in McMurray), Whitehorse Brewing (Washington) and Mindful Brewing Co. (Castle Shannon) are all participating in Hops for Hunger.

Zack Woods, of Mindful Brewing, said breweries in the area already work well together, and this is just another way to come together as a community and give back through beer.

“It fits with what we’re trying to do, to leverage our influence, our beer, our story, and folding that into other stories as well,” said Woods.

Wood said the easiest way to give back is to simply order a beer. Mindful has a variety of options including beer and seltzer. And while you’ll see different flavors on the menu, Wood said his team focuses on a good foundation first when creating new flavors.

“Our brewers do a good job at honing in and perfecting the basics within beer and traditional styles then finding new ways to add onto that. Right now we have a Clark Bar milk stout that is pretty traditional and we’re preparing a toasted coconut preparation of that beer too,” said Woods.
