On this week’s episode of the Food Podcast presented by Clearview Federal Credit Union on the TribLIVE podcast network, Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank learns more about Duquesne Light Company’s vision to deliver a clean energy future while supporting customer and community needs.

Duquesne Light Company has been a Food Bank donor for more than 20 years, with company donations as well as employee engagement through volunteering and financial support.

“We’re committed to powering people’s lives safely and affordably. But we also know that some of our customers face hardships and may have to make difficult financial decisions. Through our corporate giving efforts, we strive to support our customers holistically and help them address issues they may face at a given time,” said Vice President of Communications, ESG and Corporate Giving at Duquesne Light Company Christine Waller.

A holistic approach is taken by the Food Bank to target the issues that cause food insecurity in the region, including employment, housing, medical bills and utility bills.

Duquesne Light Company has also been financially helpful in making renovations at the warehouse possible, gifting $250,000 for The Grow Share Thrive Campaign alone. The goal of the campaign was to raise enough money to make upgrades to the current warehouse and build the capacity of the network, so the Food Bank could distribute more produce. The renovated space includes a new, on-site food pantry.

To give individuals a comfortable and confidential space to ask questions and get connected to resources beyond food, Duquesne Light Company helped build a room called the Introduction room.
