Two CSX crew members were checked for potential minor injuries after their train collided with a tractor-trailer Wednesday morning in Glassport.
Glassport firefighters were dispatched at about 11:30 am. to the crash near the intersection of Ohio Avenue and Wall Street, according to Assistant Fire Chief Jonathan Petrik.
The tractor-trailer. which was hauling recycled paper, was departing from a recycling center when the crash occurred at an unmarked crossing, Petrik said. The collision caused the rig to jackknife and demolished the trailer, he said.
The wreck affected traffic on a roadway leading into an industrial center, according to Petrik.
CSX spokeswoman Cindy Schild said the two-member train crew was taken to a local hospital to be checked for injuries. There was minor damage to a locomotive, but no leaks, she said.
Petrik said the train consisted of two locomotives pulling a single car.
The railroad tracks were cleared for train traffic to resume shortly before 5:30 p.m., Schild said.
Crews remained at the scene after 7 p.m., dismantling the trailer and cleaning up debris.
The crash is under investigation.
