Etna seeking to fill a 3rd Ward council vacancy
Etna residents interested in serving local government can apply to fill a council vacancy.
Interested residents must apply by Jan. 12.
Bill O’Dell, who represents the 3rd Ward, resigned Dec. 31. He was not immediately able to be reached for comment.
The 3rd Ward consists of the neighborhood left of Grant Avenue, from Dewey Street to the top of Grant Avenue at the border.
Applicants must be registered voters in Ward 3 and must have lived there for at least one year.
Manager Mary Ellen Ramage said the open seat runs through December. The appointee could run in the spring primary and November general election to win a full term.
She expects council to discuss the applicants and appoint a new council member during the regular business meeting on Jan. 19.
At the same time, the borough is seeking candidates to fill the newly created human relations commission.
Of the five-member board, two people will serve three-year terms, two will serve two-year terms and one will serve for one year.
Members can’t hold public office and must be borough residents or own a business in town.
Letters of interest will be accepted through Jan. 12 by mail at 437 Butler St., Pittsburgh, PA 15223.

In other news, gas line relocation and other construction has begun on Kittanning Street.
A portion of the road will be closed between Snyder and Greismere streets. It will be a 24/7 closure through at least the beginning of February.
