Pittsburgh Diocese: Sacred Heart volleyball team moved to online learning due to covid-19
Sacred Heart Elementary School volleyball team will learn online for two weeks due to someone testing positive for covid-19, Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh officials announced.
Diocese spokesman Bob DeWitt said Wednesday that someone associated with the team tested positive for the virus, and 19 people involved with the team must quarantine as part of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and state Department of Health protocols.
“School administrators, along with representatives of the Allegheny County Health Department will continue to monitor the situation and update school families,” DeWitt said via news release. “According to guidance from the Allegheny County Health Department, no building closure is warranted.”
Officials said the pre-K through eighth-grade school in Pittsburgh’s Shadyside nieghborhood continues to exceed all covid-19 health and safety protocols for in-person learning including temperature checks, cleaning and sanitizing procedures, social distancing requirements and people wearing masks.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with all the students and volunteers,” Principal Dave Barr said. “We look forward to the students being able to participate in our virtual academy and anticipate they will be able to return to school on a regular basis very soon.”
