The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled the death of a man who was reported missing Sept. 5 and whose body was later found in the Ohio River near Rivers Casino was a homicide.

Stephen Williams, 42, was last seen leaving the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown at 11:15 p.m. Sept. 5. He was then reportedly spotted shortly after midnight on Strawberry Way by the U.S. Steel Tower.

The medical examiner’s office reported that Williams’ body was in the river Tuesday morning.

The medical examiner’s office said Williams had drowned. Officials determined his death to be a homicide.

A Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesperson previously said someone found Williams’ cellphone on the ground in Point State Park near the Wyndham hotel late Friday night, but detectives had been unable to make contact with the homeless person who located it.

City police detectives are investigating. Anyone with information about Williams’ death should contact city police at 412-323-7141 or 911.
