Blood drive scheduled

South West Regional Chamber of Commerce is hosting a blood drive from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 28 at the Collier Community Center, 5 Lobaugh St.

Light Up Night in Collier

Light Up Night, with the theme “You Give, and You Get,” is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Collier Community Center, 5 Lobaugh St.

The center also is hosting the holiday movie “Elf” at 7 p.m. Dec. 16.

Historical society program

Bridgeville Area Historical Society will host a program, “Corliss Explosion, May 12, 1902,” presented by Dave Aiken at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 29. Learn about the Panhandle Railroad disaster that claimed dozens of lives 120 years ago.

The program will be held in the Chartiers Room of the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department, 370 Commercial St., and is open to the public.

Toys for Tots drive

Scott Township is collecting for Toys for Tots. Last year’s drive resulted in a large truckload of unopened toys for local children.

Toys may be dropped off at the township administrative offices during regular business hours. The final day for collections will be Dec. 12. More information is available from the drive organizer, Lisha Mihalko, at 412-276-5300, ext. 213.

Meet and greet in Scott

A meet and greet with state Rep. Dan Deasy, D-Westwood, is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Scott Township Municipal Building, 301 Lindsay Road.

Deasy represents the 27th State House District, which will include Scott as of 2023.

Food collection in Bridgeville

A collection box to benefit the Bridgeville Area Food Bank will be in the lobby of the Bridgeville Borough Building, 425 Bower Hill Road, through Dec. 8.

The annual Ciesielski Twin Food Drive is collecting nonperishable foods.

Collier leaf collection

Leaf collection in Collier continues through Dec. 2, with the township’s leaf vacuum serving residential streets only.

Leaves must be raked curbside or to the edge of residential properties. They also can be placed into brown paper lawn and leaf bags. No plastic bags will be taken. After Dec. 2, all leaves must be in brown bags for collection.

Yard waste also can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Public Works Stockyard, 110 Noblestown Road. Leaves, grass, branches and other waste will be accepted. Leaves can be placed in brown bags, but no plastic.

Bundled tree branches cannot exceed 4 feet in length and 2 feet in diameter. No paper bag or bundle can exceed 40 pounds.

Chanukah toy drive

Chabad of the South Hills is holding its annual Chanukah toy drive for hospitalized and underprivileged children.

Items being collected are new, unwrapped toys. Some ideas include puzzles, games, art supplies, Legos, dolls, play food and kitchen items, and baby toys.

Toys can be dropped off until Dec. 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, at Chabad of the South Hills, 1701 McFarland Road, Mt. Lebanon. For more information, call 4122-278-2658.

Church concert series

Academy Concerts has teamed with Unitarian Universalist Church of the South Hills, 1240 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, for a 2022-23 concert series.
