Study to determine feasibility of roundabout at tricky Chartiers Street intersection
A Robinson-based traffic engineering firm will analyze the feasibility of a roundabout at a Chartiers Street intersection that straddles Bridgeville and Upper St. Clair.
Bridgeville Council on Monday, Aug. 12 authorized working with Upper St. Clair to have Trans Associates prepare a roundabout traffic analysis, plan and estimate to determine if a roundabout is feasible at the Mayview Road, Bank Street, Lesnett Road and Chartiers Street intersection, borough manager Joe Kauer said.
“This report will prepare a concept plan, estimate and provide other pertinent information that will be used to apply for funding to construct it,” Kauer said.
The cost of the analysis is $18,750, with each municipality contributing $9,375.
“After the success of the McLaughlin Run Road Roundabout in (Upper St. Clair), it is envisioned that this same improvement can be made to greatly improve the safety and operations of the Chartiers Street intersection,” Kauer said.
Rotary assists McLaughlin Run Park meadow project
Members of the Bridgeville-South Fayette Rotary Club presented a check to Bridgeville Council on Monday, Aug. 12 for the McLaughlin Run Park meadow project.
The $7,000 donation will assist the borough in transforming the former ballfield area, now working as a flood control project, into a passive wildflower meadow that will have walking paths cut throughout it, Kauer said.
Work on the meadow will begin next month and is anticipated to be complete by the spring.
Borough officials hope the McLaughlin Run Park Meadow will improve its gateway into Bridgeville and give the area of the park a recreational purpose without losing its ability to mitigate flooding.
