A comprehensive renovation is slated for Carnegie Elementary School.

Carlynton School District officials recently were awarded a $197,761 grant from the state’s Public School Environmental Repairs Program, to support renovations at Carnegie Elementary.

The funding will address removing environmental materials at the school, said Superintendent John Kreider.

“This effort is a key step in our larger initiative to upgrade the school’s plumbing, electrical, mechanical, safety systems, doors, windows, ceilings and roofing,” Kreider said.

“Additionally, we plan to repurpose existing spaces, such as the auditorium and cafeteria, and expanding areas like the library, STEAM facilities, and instructional spaces for special education and ESL programming to enhance the services we provide to our students and community.”

Kreider said the project, tentatively, includes two additions to the building to support overall programming and services.

Carlynton applied for the grant in June to cover costs of safely removing hazardous materials to prepare for the renovation, Kreider said.

Renovations are set to begin in summer 2025. He anticipates the renovations to go out for bid in early 2025.

“This funding allows us to maintain our commitment to a safe and compliant educational setting for our students and community,” Kreider said.

Kreider said the district will continue to seek additional funding to support renovation and improvement of district facilities.

The district’s website will include a new section to provide community members with updates on the renovation project’s status.

The project also will be discussed at public committee meetings held the second Tuesday of each month at the Cougar Collaboration Center at Carlynton Jr.-Sr. High School.
