Bridgeville Council will hold a public hearing April 8 at 6:30 p.m. to hear comments on the borough’s proposed comprehensive plan.

Comprehensive plans define a future vision for a municipality and are required under the state’s Municipalities Planning Code.

Bridgeville’s Planning Commission recommended council schedule the public hearing so the plan can be considered for adoption.

The draft of the comprehensive plan can be found on the borough’s website under the government tab then the planning commission tab.

It includes information from the 2020 Census, a vision statement for the plan and plan development, and four focus areas — downtown and business; traffic, parking and signage; quality of life; and flooding — with action steps and implementation tools.

Other business

In other business, council approved tax credits for Bridgeville volunteer firefighters for 2023. Eight firefighters qualified this year, according to a borough staff report.

Manager Joe Kauer said the borough has a program that offers up to a $300 credit or refund to active Bridgeville volunteer firefighters on their local earned income tax.

“It’s a way of thanking our volunteers for their service throughout the year and aids in firefighter retention,” Kauer said.

Council also approved an agreement between the borough, the Bethel Park Municipal Authority and Upper St. Clair Township regarding the GROW-grant Multi-Municipal McLaughlin Run Sewershed Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project.

“There is a larger multi-municipal sewer that serves Bridgeville, Upper St. Clair and Bethel Park. This sewer is the larger trunk sewer … that collects the sewage from these three communities in this sewer-shed and connects to the ALCOSAN interceptor sewer,” Kauer said.

“We are in the process of transferring ownership of this sewer to ALCOSAN. As part of this transfer to ALCOSAN, improvements are needed to this sewer and this agreement shares those costs outside of the $350,000 GROW grant.”

Also at the meeting, council approved a memorandum of understanding with the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office that sets forth a procedure for Right-to-Know requests for police body camera footage.

“Those requests for police camera footage will be now reviewed and processed by the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office,” Kauer said.
