Erin Weaver became the Bridgeville Public Library director Jan. 1.

Erin Weaver will be writing the Bridgeville Public Library’s next chapter.

Weaver, 38, of South Fayette became the library’s director at the start of the year.

“It was a chance to run the library and continue on with the mission and the things we’re doing, and leave a positive impact on the community,” she said.

Weaver previously served as assistant library director for the past six years, under former director Ben Hornfeck. She’s also been a library clerk and circulation supervisor at the library, at 505 McMillen St.

“I’ve kind of done all roles here at the Bridgeville Library,” she said.

A Peters Township native, Weaver earned her undergraduate degree from Clarion University and a master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

Weaver has worked in public libraries for the past 14 years. She began her career as a library assistant in Georgia and, after five years, moved to North Carolina. She later returned home to Bridgeville, where she has spent the past nine years.

“I started in libraries because I liked books and reading, but I have stayed because of the customer service aspect of it,” Weaver said. “No two days are the same.”

During her time at Bridgeville, Weaver said she’s proud of expanding the library’s large-print collection. One unique aspect of the Bridgeville Public Library is that it’s in a residential area, and many patrons can walk to the library.

Weaver said she enjoys library patrons and staff, and thanked a supportive library board of trustees and Friends of the Library organization.

The library’s staff feels the same way about Weaver.

“I’m biased, but I love her. I’m so excited she’s going to be our director,” said Bree Balsamo-Carilli, circulation supervisor.

Weaver is organized, understanding and collaborative and understands the importance of team-oriented work, Balsamo-Carilli said.

Balsamo-Carilli said she’s looking forward to seeing how Weaver continues to engage the community, build relationships and expand programming.

“I’m excited to see how she involves the community more,” Balsamo-Carilli said.

Weaver said her goals are to increase fundraising and outreach efforts, and continue to offer programs for all ages.

“There’s a lot of things for all different age groups that people can use as a resource,” Weaver said.

She said she’s excited to leave her mark in a new way.

“I want to make positive change for the community of Bridgeville,” Weaver said.
