Bridgeville Area Historical Society events scheduled

Coordinated by the Bridgeville Area Historical Society, Gary Euler will present “The Life and Times of Roberto Clemente” on April 30.

On Tuesday, May 28, Layla Asbury will present “An insight into the relationships of Presidents and their Wives.”

Both events start at 7:30 p.m. and will be held in the BVFD’s Chartiers Room. Admission is free.

Pickleball tournament scheduled in Collier

Pickleball enthusiasts will have a chance to show off their skills during a tournament hosted by Collier Parks and Recreation.

The tournament is scheduled for April 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Collier Community Park, 5 Lobaugh St.

The cost is $25 per person. Winners can earn a cash prize and trophy.

Semi-automated trash collection coming to Heidelberg

Waste Management will be delivering a new, 96-gallon cart trash can to all Heidelberg residents on April 23. Residents were to start using the new cans on April 25.

With semi-automated collection, all materials must fit inside the trash cart with the lid firmly closed. No extra bags or materials outside the cart will be collected. Resident-owned containers cannot be serviced.

Residents must place their carts at the curb after 6 p.m. the night before a scheduled collection or by 6 a.m. on the service day.

Residents can request an additional cart for an annual fee of $110 per year, with a 7% increase each year for the following five years. To request an additional cart, residents should contact Waste Management at 800-866-4460.

Local fire companies awarded funding

Five local volunteer fire companies were awarded funding in February from grants from the Office of the State Fire Commissioner, announced State Rep. Anita Kulik, D-Kennedy.

Awards include $14,812 to the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department; $11,172 to Carnegie Volunteer Fire and Rescue; $29,812 to Kirwan Heights Volunteer Fireman’s Association, fire and EMS; $16,562 to Presto Volunteer Fire Department; and $14,423 to Rennerdale Volunteer Fire Department.

“Through the dedication of our local fire and EMS companies, our communities are protected, and lives are saved,” Kulik said. “With these new investments, we affirm our commitment to supporting those who courageously serve and ensure that safety remains a cornerstone of our neighborhoods.”

‘Can’t Sit Still Run/Walk’ in Collier next month

The Pennsylvania Tourette Syndrome Alliance is hosting a fun run in Collier on April 28.

The 5K course is on the panhandle trail, near the Walkers Mill Road entrance. Parking is available at 110 Noblestown Road. The race starts at 9 a.m. Registration is $30 for the 5K and $20 for the one-mile race.

Purple Party fundraiser on tap

The Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western Pennsylvania is hosting its Purple Party fundraiser in Carnegie in April.

The fifth annual Purple Party fundraiser, which benefits MGA’s patient support services, will be held at Cefalo’s Banquet and Event Center in Carnegie on April 20.

College Club of Carnegie to meet

The College Club of Carnegie will meet on April 6 at Atria’s Restaurant, 4959 Washington Road, McMurray. There will be a social at 11:30 a.m., with a luncheon at noon.

“Flowers in the Springtime” will be the theme for the meeting. Auction items and a 50/50 raffle will be offered to benefit the scholarship fund.

Home & Garden Workshop coming to Bridgeville

In partnership with the Pennsylvania Resources Council, Bridgeville will host Home and Garden Workshops on April 3 at 5 p.m. in the Bridgeville Public Library.

The first class is about backyard composting. People will learn how to set up and maintain a compost bin to turn kitchen scraps, yard waste and more into natural compost. Participation in the class will cost $20. A composting bin costs $70.

Following the composting class is a “Watersheds and Rain Barrels” course at 6 p.m. Participants will learn about watershed health and discover ways to promote healthy waterways, including setting up and maintaining a rain barrel. The cost to participate in the class is $20 and is $80 if you want your own rain barrel.

Bridgeville firefighters to have craft show in April

The Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department will host a craft and vendor show on April 28 at the fire department, 370 Commercial St. in Bridgeville.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event includes more than 70 crafters and vendors, food trucks, basket raffles and a 50-50 raffle.

Collier Parks and Rec to host craft show

Collier’s Parks and Recreation department will host a Spring Craft and Vendor show April 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will be held at Collier Community Park, 5 Lobaugh St., Oakdale.

The event is free. There is a $35 registration fee for participating crafters and vendors.

South Hills Women’s Club

The South Hills Women’s Club, in its 80th year, will meet on April 18 at Vanadium Woods Lobby, 50 Vanadium Road, Bridgeville, at 8 p.m. A social hour will follow the brief meeting.
