Collier to bring back Community Day; officials say it'll be better than ever
Collier Township, years ago, held a community day event that featured a few vendors at Webb Park.
That event faded away about a decade ago, but township officials are looking to bring it back on a grander scale.
“We’re bringing it back to give back to the community, but we’re doing it in a pretty big way,” said Rob Shazer, the township’s director of parks and recreation.
This year’s community day is scheduled for 5 to 10 p.m. June 28 at Collier Park, 5 Lobaugh St.
Assistant Township Manager Dana Slizik said the evening will consist of a Polynesian fire show, authentic pig roast, dunk tank, children’s games and inflatables, food vendors, local businesses and artisans, and live music from Joe Wodarek and 51 South.
Jeremy “Danger” Mulder of Froggy-FM will emcee the event.
A fireworks show sponsored by First National Bank will conclude the night.
Admission is free.
“Collier often gets lost in the shuffle because our postal addresses are either Oakdale, Presto or Bridgeville,” Slizik said. “We’re this hidden gem in the southwest region.”
Shazer acknowledged that Collier is growing, and the event is also a way for residents to connect with township departments and administration.
“The main thing is to have a face out in the community,” Shazer said. “It’s going to be the best Community Day around.”
Concerts in the Park
The township also will host a summer concert series at Collier Park.
Concerts are held every Sunday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., beginning June 2 and ending Aug. 18. Admission is free.

June 2: RML Jazz June 9: Shades of Time June 16: Lonnie McClaine Band June 23: West Hills Symphonic June 30: Hewlett Anderson July 7: Clintones Acoustic Band July 14: Lori and Jeff July 21: Timothy Earl July 28: Michael Christopher Aug. 4: Eddie and the Brusiers Aug. 11: November Blue Aug. 18: Scott, Rob and Greg of the ClarksThere will also be food trucks at the concerts.
“We try to make it as fun as possible for all ages,” Shazer said.
