Brentwood Council president resigns after alleged fight, slur
The president of Brentwood Council has stepped down from his post amid criticism over a homophobic slur he is alleged to have made.
Dennis Troy issued a letter of resignation saying his passion for the role has waned, at the same time criticism mounted over the comments he was reportedly seen making in a video at Christmastime, according to TribLive news partner WTAE.
In a video on social media, an altercation is seen between a group of men outside a bar. A man believed to be Troy delivers a homophobic slur to a group of men.
In his letter to the council, Troy did not discuss the incident. He declined comment to WTAE, citing potential litigation
He wrote that his service to the community has been “tremendously rewarding.”
Mike Foyle was sworn in as new council president.
“(Troy) served the borough well, and we should thank him for his dedicated 30 years of service,” Foyle said at Tuesday’s borough reorganization meeting.
Stephanie Fox, director of operations for the Center for Victims, is representing the group of men depicted in the video.
“I can tell you the victims did nothing wrong,” Fox said. “They were out having some wings and they were physically stalked outside of a bar.”
Fox said one of her clients filed a complaint with the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Civil Rights Enforcement Section.
“They are traumatized,” Fox said. “They are in shock, as well as their families.”
