Police said a man is in custody after he attempted to carjack an officer in Braddock late Tuesday.

A Pittsburgh man is in custody after an attempted carjacking of a police officer in Braddock on Tuesday night.

Tribune-Review news partner WPXI reported that Derek Lamont Moore, 33, is facing charges including aggravated assault, assault of a law enforcement officer, disarming a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.

Allegheny County emergency dispatch said police and EMS crews were called to the area of 6th and Margaretta streets at 9:08 p.m. The car involved was a marked police cruiser. Investigators told WPXI that the incident began with reports of a fight. When officers responded to the area, the suspect fled.

“Suspect somehow got into the passenger side of the police car and carjacked the officer that was driving, pushed her out of the car, and then attempted to run them over,” North Braddock police chief Isaac Daniele told WPXI.

Two officers fired at the police cruiser. Police said between four and six rounds were fired during the incident.

The officer who was pushed out of the car was not injured. As the suspect was being taken into custody, he allegedly punched another North Braddock officer, who was taken to a hospital.
