Joe Perry and Steven Tyler of Aerosmith perform Sept. 6 at PPG Paints Arena to a near sold-out crowd.

A Bethel Park man was jailed on attempted homicide and aggravated assault charges after allegedly injuring an usher at PPG Paints Arena, the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office reported late Thursday night.

Derek Pritchard, 24, was arrested at his home and eventually taken to the Allegheny County Jail for arraignment.

Pittsburgh police also charged him with possession of instruments of a crime and recklessly endangering another person in connection with the incident during the Aerosmith concert Sept. 6.

According to the county sheriff’s office, the victim, who also works for Allegheny County Pre-Trial Services, was working as an usher at the Captain Morgan Club when he was struck multiple times in the head and face with the bottom of an empty liquor bottle.

He was also stomped in the head and neck area while on the ground, police said. The man was taken to a UPMC Mercy hospital with a concussion and injuries to his head and face.

Pittsburgh police reviewed surveillance footage and spoke to several witnesses, including a bartender who stated Pritchard fled to a stairwell after striking the man multiple times.

The bartender also identified Pritchard as the assailant when shown video footage at Pittsburgh Police headquarters Sept. 19, according to the criminal complaint.

Detectives were able to track Pritchard down with the help of PPG Paints Arena security staff and their ticket scanning system.
