Bethel Park celebrates Community Day

With the end of summer still two weeks, members of Bethel Park High School’s hockey team probably figured they’d be fine volunteering to sit on the hot seat in a dunk tank.

Then came a sudden dip in temperature.

Still, the players were willing to take turns being plunged into not-so-hot water at their team’s during Bethel Park Community Day.

Plenty of jackets were brought out of the closet for the Sept. 7 event, especially in the morning, but plenty of guests agreed that the cool conditions may have been more agreeable than heat and humidity, and certainly preferable to precipitation.

For the annual tradition, the Bethel Park High School parking lot was full of community groups and vendors offering something for everyone, from face painting to flipping chickens. The latter took place at the Upper St. Clair-Bethel Park Breakfast Rotary Club booth, with youngsters playing a game that involved propelling a toy bird to help promote the club’s Oct. 26 Chicken BBQ fundraiser at the high school.

The people who protect everyone were in attendance, as well, with the Bethel Park Police Department, Tri-Community South EMS and the Bethel Park Volunteer Company bringing vehicles and good cheer to the proceedings.

As far as the fall, events planned by the municipality at the Bethel Park Community Center include No-Cook Tuesdays, featuring food trucks each week, starting Oct. 1; Magic Show Brunch, Oct. 12; Fall Festival, Oct. 15; and Halloween Movie Night, Oct. 25.
