Assault reported near University of Pittsburgh campus
Pittsburgh police are investigating an aggravated assault early Saturday near the University of Pittsburgh campus.
Police responded at about 2:10 a.m. to the 100 block of Oakland Avenue for reports of a robbery and assault.
The victim was punched in the head, according to an alert issued by Pitt police. The suspect pointed a handgun at the victim during the assault, police said.
The suspect is described as a white male about 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with a faded haircut and mustache.
He was wearing a cowboy hat, dark shirt and jeans.
The victim’s cowboy hat was stolen, police said.

The incident follows a report from Sept. 5 that took place at about 1:30 a.m. along the 200 block of Atwood Street.
Police said a male victim reported he was assaulted by an unknown man.
