A Washington, D.C., company has received approval from Pittsburgh Planning Commission to redevelop a Downtown warehouse formerly owned by celebrity billionaire Mark Cuban into an apartment building.
Douglas Development Corp. plans to revitalize the vacant building at 642 Fort Duquesne Blvd., which faces the Allegheny River.
The plan includes creating 142 apartments in the 100-year-old building, originally a warehouse for PPG. The building was previously owned by Mt. Lebanon native Mark Cuban, who owns the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks and stars on the television show “Shark Tank.”
Plans for the building include a full masonry restoration, historically accurate window replacements and new first-floor windows to replace existing garage doors, as well as lounge space for residents and a rooftop pavilion.
The developer has said it hopes to begin construction this summer. Pittsburgh-based Strada Development is spearheading the work. Douglas Development hasn’t provided estimated construction costs.
The Planning Commission unanimously approved the plans Tuesday with no discussion.
