Loaded gun, magazines caught at Pittsburgh International Airport checkpoint
Transportation Security Administration officers recovered a loaded handgun from a passenger’s carry-on bag Monday at Pittsburgh International Airport.
Officials said the 9 mm gun was detected via checkpoint X-ray machine that morning.
It was found alongside two loaded gun magazines. The traveler, a Slippery Rock man, was fined.
This is the 23rd gun caught at a PIA checkpoint this year.
Civil penalties for bringing a gun into an airport checkpoint can be thousands of dollars. They apply to travelers with or without concealed carry permits.
Passengers may transport unloaded firearms in checked baggage if they are secured in a locked, hard-sized container and declared to the airline before traveling, according to TSA regulations.
